Reading notes - week 46

Brief thoughts this week. As I’ve read through the books of Amos and Micah and parts of Isaiah, I am reminded of the first time I read through the Bible. I was overcome by an overwhelming sense of the character of God. The attributes that I had never really focused on. His holiness and therefore His intolerance of sin.

These books of prophecy show us HIs wrath, the consequences of our falling short of His standards. Most of my life, I focused on HIs mercy and kindness. While those are surely true of Him (hallelujah!), equally and simultaneously true are His justice and wrath.

As you read this week’s assignments, you will likely encounter things that you don’t understand. You’ll be in good company, I assure you. I don’t understand a lot of it myself. But even as we read things that are not clear, let’s ask the Lord to show us His character. Not just the parts that make us feel warm and fuzzy but rather the wholeness of His glory. That includes His justice and wrath.
